Review:
This is death metal in it's truest form. Early 90's, fast, brutal, and outright evil! Impaler can switch from ass blazing solos to a doom riff so fast you'll never believe it. They can do magic. This album is a long forgotten gem in the early 90's British metal scene. I don't see anybody really talking about these guys but I think they're amazing! Maybe not completely original, but it's fun, it's ruthless and best of all, it's death metal the way it should be! Yes, it's raw, it's brutal, it's skillfully played, it's all that and more! The lyrics are evil, the song structures are badass and it reeks of the '90s. This album needs to be re-released ASAP!
The guitars fucking rock! The solos could burn a mans face off, tape it back on and them rip it off again and piss on it. Yeah, I said it. The riffs are up to par with everything else going on at that time period, they are catchy like AIDS and almost easier to spread around! There is nothing to dislike here in the guitar department!
The drums are.... honestly a little lackluster. They're not bad and they fit with the music mind you, they're just very bland. Almost no fills or rolls, pretty much the same beat over and over again. Either a mid paced beat, blastbeats or double bass. Like i said not bad, but it really could've used some spicing up.
The bass almost exactly follows the guitars so it's no surprise there that it's pretty badass. Not horribly out-of-the-way noticeable but you know, it's decent. Not a lot to really say here, look back up on what I have to say about the guitars and just pretty much copy and paste.
The vocals are really good, mostly mid range death growls, but thast not bad at all! In fact, it kinda adds to the charm. Like i said earlier this is death metal the way is should be, those fag bands out there (i'm looking at you Beneath The Massacre) need to take a lot of notes on stuff like this if they want to ever be deemed listenable. A good way to describe these vocals would be to say picture a slightly deeper version of the Death vocals, you should be able to get it from there.
All in all, this is a really good, often overlooked and even more often forgotten gem of an album. Until we get someone to re-release this album then all I can say is keep your eyes peeled for it, you'll hate yourself if you miss the opportunity to own this metal beast.
Check it out!
